Surviving Infidelity

If your spouse has cheated on you, then you are undoubtedly hurting. Betrayal is one of the most damaging acts one can do and it causes very severe emotional trauma to a person. Statistically, betrayal by adultery is more painful and damaging to your emotions than if your spouse had died. You go through the different phases: denial, guilt, anger, revenge, blame (either you blame yourself or your spouse). All these feelings are churning inside of you and you feel as though your life is spiralling out of control. You feel as though you are standing in front of a train and you can’t stop it. When it hits you, you are left to pick up the pieces of your shattered heart all by yourself. You feel so completely alone and helpless. Well, it gets better. Little by little, it gets better. It may not seem so at the time, but it does, but only if you choose not to let it make you bitter. The most important thing to do if your spouse has cheated on you is to forgive them. "But I just can’t." Well, you better because Jesus said that if you do not forgive, then you cannot be forgiven. Forgiveness is essential. And you must forgive both of them!! Not just your spouse. All this takes time and is a dreadful process that in a perfect world you would never have to face. But we’re not in a perfect world, yet. Don’t seek revenge! Vengeance is the Lord’s. When my husband cheated on me, I asked God to strike him with lightening, thinking it’s God doing the avenging. God is not going to strike your spouse with lightening, but on the day of judgment, your spouse, if he/ she does not repent, won’t be looking too good to God. Some people plot their spouse’s demise. Other’s will get back at them by cheating as well. These things will only hurt you. Instead, fall into God’s arms. When you feel as though you can’t go on, call out to God, yell, scream, "God, help me!" He will send the Holy Spirit to comfort you. He will remind you that Jesus loves you and died for you. He will pour out His love on you in your time of need. Financially, if you put your trust in Him, He will take care of you and be your provider. Let God take care of you, for He would never leave you, nor forsake you, and especially, He would never betray you. He’s God, He loves you. Now, you have two options if your spouse has committed adultery. You can choose to divorce them, which you absolutely can for God has this one and only provision for divorce and you are not bound by the law, which means you are free to marry again. You can choose this route and no one should judge you for it. Secondly, you can stand for your marriage. You can ask God to restore and heal your broken marriage. Believe you receive and He is able!! This is hard and requires much patience. Neither choice is easy, neither is right or wrong. But, I will say this: Satan is out to destroy marriages all over the world. Your cheating spouse and the other person are mere pawns used by Satan to destroy your marriage. Are you gonna let him? You can stand for your marriage in protest to the devil. And don’t do it for vain glory, but do it for a testimony of God’s power and ability. Do it out of love. Do it to kick Satan, the thief, right in the teeth. And even if your spouse never returns, which is possible, you still have an amazing testimony of love and endurance. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away."Hebrews 4:12-13 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of theheart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before."  Proverbs 30: 21 and 23 (NIV) "Under three things the earth trembles…" "an unloved woman who is married…"Psalm 35 (NAS) "Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of buckler and shield and rise up for my help. Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet  those who pursue me; Say to my soul, "I am your salvation." Let those be ashamed and dishonored who seek my life; Let those be turned back and humiliated who devise evil against me. Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them on. Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. For without cause they hid their net for me; Without cause they dug a pit for my soul.  Let destruction come upon him unawares, and let the net which he hid catch himself; Into that very destruction let him fall. And my soul shall rejoice in the LORD; It shall exult in His salvation. All my bones will say, "LORD, who is like You, Who delivers the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, and the afflicted  and the needy from him who robs him?" Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know They repay me evil for good, to the bereavement of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer kept returning to my bosom. I went about as though it were my friend or brother; I bowed down mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother. But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The smiters whom I did not know gathered  together against me, they slandered me without ceasing. Like godless jesters at a feast, they gnashed at me with their teeth. Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my only life from the lions. I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng. Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me without cause wink  maliciously. For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. They opened their mouth wide against me; They said, "Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!" You have seen it, O LORD, do not keep silent; O Lord, do not be far from me. Stir up Yourself, and awake to my right  and to my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness, and do not let them rejoice over me. Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha, our desire!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up!" Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice  at my distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant." And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness  And Your praise all day long."Psalm 147 (NAS) "Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming. The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted  and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. The LORD supports the afflicted; He brings  down the wicked to the ground. Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises to our God on the lyre, Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who provides rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. He gives to the beast its food, and to the young ravens which cry. He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD favors those who fear Him, those who wait for His lovingkindness. Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you. He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat. He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes. He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who  can stand before His cold? He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow. He declares His words to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel. He has not dealt  thus with any nation; And as for His ordinances, they have not known them. Praise the LORD!""Reconcile yourself to wait in this darkness as long as is necessary, but still go on longing after Him whom you love."Cloud of UnknowingBook on the Spiritual Life
