Believe Him
I was having a conversation with my younger son recently and he said something very simple, yet so profound. He said, “People believe in God, but they don’t believe Him.”
As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 points out, “All scripture is breathed out by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 The Scriptures version.
“All scripture is breathed out by Elohim (God/ Mighty One).”
Let that sink in.
My son and I went on to discuss just how true this is. So many people believe that Elohim (God/ Mighty One) exists, but they do not believe Him when it comes to His written Word (the Scriptures/ Bible). They believe in Elohim yet never read their Bible or live in a way that reflects they believe His Word to be the final authority in their lives. They believe in Him but completely ignore what He has to say in the scriptures He Himself breathed. They are not disciples (taught ones) of the Messiah. They are hearers and not doers of the Word.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22 NKJV
I asked someone once if they still believed in God and they became very offended. “Why would you think that?!” they scoffed. “What about your life reflects that of one who does?” I asked.
Understand something, even the adversary, Satan, believes in the Most High God. But he rebelled against the authority of the Creator.
And we know how his story ends.
To believe in the Most High God but not believe Him is to rebel against His Word. It is putting your trust in other things rather than the Almighty. People ignore the do’s and don’ts of the Scriptures and yet still want to receive the promises of the blessed life that the Scriptures have to offer.
They don’t tithe yet want the blessing of prosperity.
They eat all the wrong things yet want the blessing of health.
They gossip yet want the blessing of friendship.
They fornicate and commit adultery yet want the blessing of a rich relationship.
They promote homosexuality yet want their nation to be blessed.
They support abortion and want to be blessed, free from the shedding of innocent blood.
The list goes on and on.
God does not bless what His word forbids.
I’m not saying you have to be perfect to be blessed. I know I miss the mark. What I am saying is this: merely saying you believe that Yahweh the Most High God exists and actually acting on what His Word says are two totally different things. If you seek to become disciples (taught ones) of the Messiah Yeshua, doing what He did and living in the authority He gave you, blessing will follow.
“But seek first the reign of Elohim, and His Righteousness, and all these shall be added to you.” Mathew 6:33 The Scriptures version
The amplified Bible puts it this way, “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”
Yeshua told the woman caught in adultery, “neither do I condemn you. Now, go and sin no more.”
If we’re to be like Him, we ought not coddle sinful behavior, but speak the truth in love that, while I do not condemn you, you ought not be sinning. It is not Yahweh’s perfect plan nor the path to victory and blessing for your life. It is our disobedience and rebellion that hinders us from being able to receive the blessing. And why do we disobey? Because our trust is not in the Most High God. We do not believe Him. And that stems from not knowing Him.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the Heavens.” “And I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness.” Matthew 7: 21 and 23 The Scriptures version
“But I’ve been redeemed from the curse of the law.” We have been redeemed from the law of sin and death. But the law of Elohim, the Torah, has not been done away with. We have been given the strength, power, and authority to obey His commands.
“For the torah (law) of the Spirit of the life in Messiah has set me free from the torah (law) of sin and death. For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim, having sent His own Son in the likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteousness of the Torah (law of Elohim) should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:
“But I am saved by grace, not by works.”
Yes, we are indeed saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). But grace is not a license to sin. Grace is not a free pass to continue living however your flesh desires. Grace is the power to overcome sin. Grace is the power to overcome your flesh. In the Messiah alone is the strength you need to be an overcomer. Scripture breathed by Elohim would not tell us to do what James 1 tells us to do if this were not true.
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” James 1: 21-25 NKJV
Be a doer of the work of the Most High God and you will be blessed.
“The chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost (the breathe of Elohim), Christianity without Christ (Messiah), forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God (Elohim), and heaven without hell (She’ol).” William Booth
